"The driver CPC was introduced across the European Union to raise standards and improve safety. All professional Bus, Coach and drivers of Lorries of 3.5 tons and upwards, licence categories D, D1, DE, D1E, C, C1, CE and C1E must hold a Driver CPC if they want to continue driving for a living. Affected drivers will need to complete a minimum of 35 hours of periodic training approved by the Joint Approvals Unit for Periodic Training (JAUPT) within a 5 year cycle which commenced on September 10th 2008 for bus and coach drivers and September 10th 2009 for Lorry drivers. On completion of this training the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) will automatically issue the driver with their Driver Qualification Card (DQC)."
